Ron was born in The Hague, Holland on November 16, 1949, and when he was six months old his family moved to Indonesia. This is where he spent his first four years with his older sister and brother, while being cared for by his nanny as, from what he remembers, his parents were pretty busy away from the family working and socializing. Within a few years his younger sister was born, and after moving back to Holland another brother and sister came into the world.

Ron's interest in music, which runs in his mother's family, has led him to singing and playing guitar since his mid teens. Two of his uncles (his mother's brothers) played piano professionally for many years, and his mother played piano part time in a big band in Indonesia. Ron would hear many tunes from Bill Haley and his Comets, Ray Charles, Ella Fitzgerald and Dave Brubeck coming from his mother's record player at home. More of Ron's musical roots can be found while listening to the British blues of the early Rolling Stones, John Mayall, Eric Clapton, early Fleetwood Mac (before they moved to the U.S. and regrouped) and some of their classmates, and were further peppered by tunes of such folks as the Rolling Stones, the Kinks, David Bowie & Bryan Ferry.

In the early 1970s Ron toured around Holland with his band Sexy Lexy (named after his first roadie & sound technician Lex) doing original tunes ~ some of it written with or by his pal and rhythm guitar player extra-ordinaire Ron Witte ~ while recording the odd tune at EMI’s studios in Haarlem.

In the summer of 1976 Ron moved to England and picked up the pub crawling habit around London, together with his guitar and other musical friends, while playing blues and reggae.

Since coming to Canada in 1979 Ron has sung and played guitar with Dutch Touch, The Nater Brothers (with his brother Martin) and Rizing Tide. He was also the guitar player with Rhythm 'n Blue.

Ron blends his soaring lead guitar with his bluesy vocals to lead the Ron Nater Band with its Chicago style electric blues & vintage tunes and makes his home in Mississauga, Ontario.
